This is a very interesting case study. Addressing the Twitter dilemma Nestle encountered, a company has to expect negative feedback on products, but there are other ways to use social media to a company's advantage. Tweeting new and inventive ideas of how to Nestle is making their products more nutritional would be a good idea. By telling followers that your company is trying to improve, feedback from the hashtag conversation may have gone a better. Nestle should have monitored the conversation and asked questions to the consumer, and not let consumers run the conversation. Also, Nestle should stay active in social media and by dong so they are letting consumers know that they are listening and trying to make everyone happy.

Guess I'd like to comment about James' comment above on "Affiliate Marketing On the Internet ". I truly don't want to be disrespectful James, but there is zero performance in Affiliate Marketing On the Internet. Or anywhere else for that matter. Zip. Nada. None. Several of my good friends are into that stuff. But frankly anyone with any sense of a business plan will be hard pressed to find it has anything to do with sound business at all. It is smoke and mirrors.

Affiliate Marketing On the Internet

Affiliate Marketing is a performance based sales technique used by companies to expand their reach into the internet at low costs. This commission based program allows affiliate marketers to place ads on their websites or other advertising efforts such as email distribution in exchange for payment of a small commission when a sale results…….

Not that no one ever complained before, but this is a scary time to have someone upset about your service or product. It only takes one "United Breaks Guitars" video on Youtube to send a million people reeling. I think it can be overcome, but bottom line is service and customer relations must be at an all time high.

This is yet another example of a corporation appearing to view social media as a ready sales channel and not considering the "power of the voice" that social media gives to the person in the street. Or how to handle responses when things go wrong.

In many ways this is a positive thing. As more large corporations face this kind of backlash they may think twice about cleaning up their own house before going public. It can only be a good thing.
