3 Pillars of Online Marketing

I interviewed Aaron Kahlow at the Online Marketing Summit in Long Beach, CA.

In his keynote Aaron spoke about the 3 pillars of online marketing and how social media is the roof that covers all 3 and enhances everything else you do.

The 3 pillars area:

  1. Search – something PR people really need to learn for news search
  2. Email Marketing – still a backbone component and vital to blogger outreach
  3. Analytics – measurement drives your strategy

Kahlow said that those who do have a social media strategy will find it is the differentiator that sets them apart from the pack.  And it does take a strategy – CMO’s say the main reason they’re not incorporating social  media into their marketing is a lack of knowledge on how to do it right.

I liked OMS.  It’s different from most conferences.  It’s all about education.  Each session is an in depth look at a subject with only one or two speakers.  And there’s no trade show.  It’s not about the vendors – it’s about the attendees really learning the latest online marketing  information.

The 2009 tour is over.  Watch for the 2010 dates.
